The Neighbors Are Doing What???

Shaw Nature Reserve

Thursday, June 8, 2023

10 a.m. - noon

Carriage House

For Adults

Something is always unfolding in nature just outside your backdoor and at the local park. Stories are “being told” all of the time. If you know what to look for, listen for, etc. you will be able to crack the secret code of animal language and behavior and tap into these rich stories unfolding around you. Join us to learn about clues from birds, squirrels, deer, etc. that paint the bigger picture of what is going on. Multiple examples of what to look and listen for will be shared. Tips for warming up and fine tuning your senses will be practiced to help you become better at tracking nature. Additionally, investigating scat and tracks tells of a story that has already transpired and can be observed as well. After covering some of the “how to” skills of this endeavor, we will take a short walk to put into practice what we have learned, and discover what is unfolding around us. Resources will be suggested for further exploration of your neighbors’ stories to continue this unique study and understanding of nature on your own.

Art Exhibit at Audubon Center at Riverlands

301 Riverland Way, West Alton, MO 63386

September - October 2017

I am so excited to have the opportunity to display my artwork at the Audubon Center at Riverland in West Alton!  I have many fond memories of 'first dates'  birding there with my now husband Aaron from this sacred space.   Currently, we have added to our memories by kayaking in Ellis Bay and the Mississippi River near the Audubon Center.  Observing the diversity of wildlife, especially the birds, is always such a high for me.

The exhibit will feature watercolors of Missouri's wildlife.

Art Exhibit at Busch Wildlife

June 30 - July 28, 2017

My artwork will be on display at August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in the Visitor Center lobby for the month of July.  The display will feature wildlife - both Fine Art (done in studio) and Nature Journaling (mostly completed in the field).   Come check it out!

Resident Artist at Echo Bluff State Park and Current River State Park

June 10 - June 18, 2017

I can hardly contain myself!  I will be working as the Resident Artist at Echo Bluff and Current River State Parks!  The focus of my art will be Nature Journaling which I LOVE to do myself and teach others how to engage in as well.  I will be conducting programs with the public, training local teachers, working a demo table, and roving the beautiful grounds of these great parks exploring and journaling myself.  WOW!  I can't wait!

These parks are in the heart of the Ozarks.  The Jacks Fork River and the Current River run close by flanked with large, rolling hills of trees and rocky bluffs.  This is God's country indeed:)

Guest Speaker Event with Missouri Master Naturalists

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

I am looking forward to presenting my evolving story with Nature Journaling to the Missouri Master Naturalists, Great Rivers Chapter, in Kirkwood this month.  My presentation will include a PowerPoint presentation featuring a varitey of techniques from my journal entries over the years.  Audience members will be invited to try a few journaling techniques on the spot!

Additionally, journals I have kept through the years will be available for people to view as well as books with ideas on journaling techniques.

I gave a similar presentation to the St. Louis Watercolor Society this past spring, and I was so  happy that it was well received!  Nature journaling is appealing because there really are not any 'rules.'    Looking at different techniques, however, invites the journaler to create fresh and vibrant entries in his or her journal.

Art Exhibit at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area

September 4, 2016 - October 14, 2016

Stop by the Visitor Center at Columbia Bottom and explore the 13 original watercolor paintings that I have on display!  Ten of the paintings I have combined fine art with journaling .  These pieces teach a little of the 'story' of that animal, and its role in Missoui's ecosystems.  Enjoy!
