How do you learn to identify birds by name???  There are so many different birds, and it can all get rather overwhelming!

     Using templates to recreate field marks (colors and patterns) of specific birds is a great way to get familiar with the birds' markings, tell them apart, and remember their names!

Directions:  

1.  Click on the PDF file to print the template below. 

2.  Two ways to use this template:

     • Select 4 birds (or more!) that you would like to learn how to ID.  Use

        reference photos to help you color the field marks correctly, and label

        each bird's name.  This exercise will help you remember these birds

        appearance and their name.

     • Or, take this template into the field, observe the birds, record their

        field marks and other data on the spot, and then work on identifying
