Oh how I anticipate the blooming of Witch Hazel in January and/or February! I wish I could create a scratch and sniff section in my journal that would capture that alluring fragrance. Instead, I wait patiently each year to breath in the first inkling of spring - even thought it is still winter.
The weather has been extremely cold lately, and these beautiful 'ice pancakes' have graced the Missouri River because of it. They remind me of massive (some are 15 feet across), white beasts following an ancient migration route. They continue their procession down river - spinning and creating sounds like Cottonwood tree leaves blowing
on a breezy day. I have been enchanted by these white beasts for days. I will miss these new friends when the weather warms and they disappear on their journey.
